A Bit About My Professional Journey
I was raised in North Texas, and completed my bachelor's degree in West Tennessee to work as a youth minister. I started my full time career in church ministry in rural Tennessee, during which I encountered a significant need to incorporate mental health into my work as a church minister. As I pursued my training in pastoral counseling I decided to continue my training in clinical mental health counseling to be better equipped to meet the needs of the people in my church community. I developed a huge interest in grief and bereavement counseling during my counseling training as well as special interest in couples counseling. My ministerial training and ministry experience were naturally integrated with my counseling training which all inform how approach my work as a counselor and counselor educator. I hope to embody the love of Jesus for every person who sits in my office or my classes.
My Current Work
​​Dr. Hale is an Assistant Professor of Mental Health Counseling at Belmont University in Nashville, TN within the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences where he teaches in the master's and doctoral mental health counseling programs. He provides counseling services about 1 full day per week and offers continuing education trainings and workshops for counselors. Dr. Hale is active in research, counseling conference presentations, and grant writing. Dr. Hale specializes in grief and bereavement counseling, spiritually integrated counseling, and marriage and pre-marital counseling and frequently conducts counseling for individuals, groups, and couples online and in-person. Dr. Hale's research interests include attachment to God, suicide prevention and intervention, disaster response counseling, thanatology, and counselor education and development.
My Education
Dr. Hale has been practicing as a therapist since 2019. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Bible with emphases in Youth Ministry, Preaching, and Local Ministry and a Minor in Psychology (2015). He also earned a Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling (2019), and a Master of Science degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling (2021) all from Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, TN. Dr. Hale completed his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Counseling and Supervision (2024) from Tennessee Technological University in Cookeville, TN where he completed his research dissertation entitled Examining the Psychometric Properties of the Attachment to God Inventory with a 12 Step Substance Use Recovery Population.
